Abstract
This dissertation is entitled: "The integration of the principles of sustainable development into business operations to achieve competitive advantage".
It is an exploratory approach to the two concepts, sustainable development and the achievement of competitive advantage, and the revelation of their synergy in modern Greek businesses.
From the studied bibliography, articles and other relevant dissertations and doctoral theses, there does not seem to be a comparative study of the two concepts and for all sizes of businesses (small, medium and large).
The purpose of the work was to determine through an exploratory approach whether it is true that the integration of the principles of sustainable development in the operation of businesses is identical with the achievement of competitive advantage for all businesses, regardless of size
As was evident from the interview given to us by a market expert on the subject and an executive of a large consulting company, the integration of the principles of sustainable development in the operation of businesses is a prerequisite -and often identical- with the achievement of competitive advantage.
From the interviews with the owners and executives of the businesses, it was evident that in all cases of businesses (small, medium, large), decision-makers try to apply the principles of sustainable development and that the principles of sustainable development and the achievement of competitive advantage are closely related.
