Artificial Intelligence (AI) has made significant progress in recent years, profoundly impacting fields, such as education. Specifically, Large Language Models (LLMs), such as ChatGPT, offer new opportunities for developing innovative and interactive educational material, attracting the interest of educators and researchers. However, existing studies have primarily focused on specific uses, such as creating quizzes and comprehension exercises, overlooking the broader capabilities of ChatGPT, including reading and analyzing digital documents, information retrieval, and proposing approaches and tools, effectively acting as a digital assistant for educators. Furthermore, the application of ChatGPT in Greek educational settings, particularly in humanities subjects, remains underexplored. In this context, this master's thesis investigates the use of ChatGPT in creating and enhancing educational material for the chapter "World War I and the Russian Revolution (1914–1918)" in the "Modern and Contemporary History" course for third-year junior high school students. Initial content generated by ChatGPT-4 was assessed for validity and feasibility and refined into final material with input from an experienced philologist. The evaluation of the final material by experienced philologists, using a structured questionnaire, highlighted that ChatGPT can produce high-quality, interactive, diverse, engaging, and easy-to-use material, significantly enriching the learning experience.
