The present study focuses on examining the extent of the food waste problem, and proposes the development of an application aimed at reducing this phenomenon by connecting businesses with social structures in Athens. As presented in the study, food waste poses significant environmental, economic, and social challenges. The proposed application aims to address market needs by facilitating the effective redistribution of surplus food, enhancing communication and coordination between donors and recipients, and promoting awareness about food waste.
The research highlights the importance of tailored approaches to reduce food waste, the role of technology in facilitating food redistribution, and the need for collaboration among stakeholders. It contributes to the broader dialogue on sustainable food systems, showing how technological innovations can address the issue of food waste and promote environmental sustainability, economic efficiency, and social equity.
