This master’s thesis investigates the integration of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) in business processes, and their impact on the competitive advantage and organizational competence of firms. The objective of this study is to examine how these systems enhance data accuracy, accelerate business processes, and improve decision-making. The methodology is based on the extraction of primary data through a case study, the analysis of secondary data through an extensive literature review, and the examination of technological trends related to the development and support of ERP and WMS systems.
The main conclusions derived from the research suggest that ERP systems offer a common platform for integrated management of business functions, but their effectiveness largely depends on the level of user training in data entry and system implementation. Similarly, WMS significantly contributes to the smooth operation of warehouses, thanks to the automation of processes such as order fulfillment, inventory management, and shipment tracking. Moreover, a noteworthy contribution comes from the integration of WMS with other systems, such as ERP, which together contribute to operational efficiency and visibility throughout the supply chain.
Finally, issues such as overspending, technically challenging implementations, and employee resistance to change cannot and should not be ignored. Despite these difficulties, companies can significantly improve their internal organizational performance, competitiveness, and profitability through the adoption of ERP and WMS, based on strategic planning.
