The aim of this study is to highlight the diversity and difference that prevails in the labour market and especially in the Maritime Industry. Furthermore, the present study attempts to focus mainly on the role of women in the labour market in general and in the maritime sector in particular, in order to highlight the issue of gender discrimination in employment opportunities. In particular, the ultimate aim of this thesis is, on the one hand, to examine the concept of diversity in everyday life and in the professional arena, and on the other hand, to provide a clear and complete reference to the phenomenon of discrimination, as it has been shaped over the years, through the study of the existing legislative framework, both at European and Greek level.
Finally, the present study aims to highlight the extent to which executives working in the shipping industry and the wider labour market accept diversity and difference without stereotypes and discrimination (e. g. with regard to women executives or women in leadership positions, women in male-dominated traditional professions such as for example the naval crew, etc. ). The emergence of the conceptual and legislative framework of diversity as well as the emergence of the position of women in the labour market and especially in the maritime sector is attempted mainly through bibliographical references, updated data from studies and the presentation of legal cases.
