This diploma thesis analyzes the concept and term of "smart neighborhoods". The thesis applies a historical review of the creation of cities, which reveals that heterogeneity is one of the most important characteristics of urban areas and urban life. In addition, it is indicated that based on the design and the respective legislative and organizational framework, space is shaped and urban development is determined. An integral part of this development is the creation of certain challenges that require immediate attention. In recent years, advanced technological solutions have come to the fore to counter these problems. The digital transformation of cities is now a fact, with new concepts and terms gaining popularity. The most popular among these terms is the one that describes these cities as "smart". Breaking down the composite parts that make up a "smart city" makes it clear that the "smart neighborhood" is the smallest sub-area in the design. Through the thesis, it is revealed that "smart neighborhoods" leverage the techniques and methods of developing "smart cities" on a larger scale of design and thus compose a miniature version of them. In addition to the theoretical analysis of the above, the thesis examines a specific case study where a traditional neighborhood complex is transformed by means of technology.
