In this thesis, the use of the timeline for recording and classifying events from the analog to the digital era is analyzed through the literature as well as the importance of the timeline as a means of displaying cultural data for cultural agents, managers, researchers, and the public. Finally, a Timeline application is implemented with the Collective Access software.
Specifically, historical elements of timelines are presented, how the timeline has been established over the years as a key time-oriented data visualization tool, and research that has been conducted on the use of temporal data representations in cultural spaces and on the Internet is presented. Different types, development tools, and successfully applied examples of timelines are then listed. The paper concludes by developing a timeline through the Collective Access open-source information system for cultural data, presenting a parameterization guide.
