The subject of this thesis is the documentation of the fortification of the Medieval City of Rhodes, a UNESCO world heritage monument, using the VRA Core 4.0 and the presentation of the parts of it using digitized content. The fortification is divided into two parts, the sea and the land part. Εach part includes Bastions, Towers and Gates. The thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter is about the historical background of the figuration of the fortification between 1309, the year of the occupation of Rhodes by the Knights Hospitaller and the years 1521-1522 which signal the Ottoman Turks occupation of the city. The first chapter also offers information about the characteristics and data for the Gates, bastions and Towers for both parts of the fortifications. The second chapter analyzes the basic functions of the VRA core 4.0 and its use in the field of cultural heritage documentation. The second chapter describes the application of the VRA Core 4.0 to create Metadata for the fortification of the Medieval City of Rhodes, using XML by examples. The third and last chapter is about a general conclusion of the use of metadata in this field, a description of the 360-camera recording process and the presentation of the spherical videos for the main parts of the fortification walls and last it provides suggestions for future research. At the end , there is an appendix with the names of the Master and Grand Masters who played an exceptional role in the construction of this Monument plus a glossary of the basic terminology relating to the Medieval fortification and buildings.
