This Master’s Thesis deals with the design and development of an educational game, in which Augmented Reality technology is combined with a traditional board game. The choice of combining a traditional game with Augmented Reality technology was made with the aim of filling the gap that exists between digital games and physical games. By leveraging the strengths of both of these game categories, there is the potential to keep players engaged and enhance learning outcomes.
The purpose of this game is to act as a "vehicle" for players on a "journey of awareness and information" in Personal Data Protection. The education of children and young people on the subject of Personal Data Protection and Internet Security is an issue that concerns the World Community. Many countries have developed programs and initiatives for educating children and educators. These programs and initiatives usually include: educational programs in schools, educational seminars and campaigns to raise awareness of parents and guardians, platforms providing educational resources and digital educational games.
Our goal is that the proposed game can easily be used by teachers of Primary and Secondary School helping students to understand the dangers of sharing their personal information on Internet and give them the necessary knowledge to protect their personal data, adopt good practices in using the Internet and Social Media and not hesitate to report inappropriate behavior and ask for help from trusted adults.
