At the heart of this master's thesis are the good practices necessary to promote the development of smart cities, emphasizing a holistic approach that considers ethical, social, and political considerations. Additionally, this thesis seeks to explore the symbiotic relationship between financial and technological business innovations, while shedding light on the imperative to balance economic interests and ethical responsibilities in the field of smart cities. In addition, the critical aspect of structural design modeling is explored, which lays the foundation for creating resilient and adaptable urban infrastructures. By placing the citizen at the center of the research, it delves into the realm of citizen user experience design, seeking to ensure that the application of smart city technologies prioritizes the well-being and empowerment of individuals within the urban fabric. Finally, within the above context, the Athens Museum Explorer application was created, exploring user experience design principles to ensure that technology-based solutions prioritize the seamless interaction, engagement, and empowerment of individuals within the smart city landscape. Through this interdisciplinary inquiry, this thesis aims to contribute to the broader smart city debate and inspire a more equitable, sustainable, and human-centered urban future.
