The present paper consists of a literature review of closed-loop supply chain system modeling
research and a case study. The paper was structured in 4 extensive chapters, of which the first
concerns the concept of sustainability, the second presents the closed-loop supply chain and
the bullwhip effect at a theoretical level, while the third is a literature review of empirical
research on modeling closed-loop supply chain systems.
In the 4th chapter, through an example of planning and optimization of a closed loop
supply chain, we investigate in practice the economic benefits they offer us as well as the
benefits for the environment.
