Telecommuting is a practice that is increasingly being adopted by organizations around the world and mainly due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Burnout is a prolonged response to chronic emotional and interpersonal stressors at work. The term "workaholic" is widely used, but there is little consensus about its meaning beyond its core element: a substantial investment in work.
Purpose: The main purpose of this research was to investigate which is the relationship between workaholism and burnout in teleworkers.
Methodology: The data collection of the research was done through a questionnaire. The anonymous questionnaire was created via Google Forms and the link was sent to people who had worked with the telecommuting method as well as posted in a closed telecommuting group on a social network (Facebook). The survey was conducted in June 2021 and resulted in 6,585 responses. Of these, 6,513 accepted the GDPR regulation and continued to complete the questionnaire. Its average completion time was 10 minutes.
Results: The results of the study show that telecommuting can lead to burnout, because employees are committed to their work (without hours possibly) which eventually leads to workaholism. Therefore in many cases they are inextricably linked. In this way, employees continue to face the demands of the job even after their working hours resulting in burnout.
