This thesis entitled: "Food Waste Management and Climate Crisis" is a literature review which aims to firstly describe the global problem of food waste, where according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) about 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted annually. A distinction is then made between key concepts such as wastage and food loss. Statistics on food wastage in the European Union are also presented, as well as the environmental impact through greenhouse gas emissions. Extensive reference is also made to the food waste reduction strategies implemented by the European Union and the ways in which consumers are encouraged to reduce food waste in their daily lives. It is also worth noting the huge importance of food waste recovery through various processes such as anaerobic digestion and composting. Finally, some clever ideas from various European cities are presented on how various municipalities and supermarket chains make use of food that is about to expire or has leftovers.
