The diploma thesis deals with a topic that is both current and ancient, almost as old as humanity itself, that of the supply of goods and resources in relation to geopolitical developments. The transportation of goods around the planet connects international actors in terms of power and interdependence. The new Silk Road that China is trying to establish brings new realities to the degree of possibilities for states and participants in the international system, with the Chinese state applying so-called soft power. At the same time, technological advancements and the trends of the 4th industrial revolution are leading the planet towards new actions and new functions of supply chains, which are further digitized. This in turn poses new - hybrid - risks both at the purely cyber level and in general at the level of governance and institutions, with the shipping environment (natural and economic) exhibiting high vulnerability. However, the need to transport the goods and resources still exists; throughout history, the optimal means of transporting resources and goods is something that humans discovered thousands of years ago, and it is not by ship. The sea connects, transports, dresses, moves, warms, and feeds humanity. Specifically, with the recent developments at the local-regional level with the war in Ukraine, which remains to be seen if it will trigger systemic changes on a global level, this has become both understandable and tangible. Supply chains are still in a state of formation and the war on European territory has come to confirm the vulnerability and sensitivity of the whole issue. Keohane and Nye with their work on power and interdependence are more relevant than ever before; the central protagonist in all this is shipping operating in the entire international system, the driving force of trade and a key stakeholder in the supply chain.
