The current thesis describes the effort of a Greek small and medium-sized enterprise to survive by entering into a strategic alliance through the licensing agreement with a foreign manufacturing company. The Greek company under review, MAS S.A., has entered into a strategic alliance with Woodward in its effort to become internationalized. The aim of this thesis is the bibliographic research on strategic alliances as methods of internationalization and achieving high performance. Through the research, causes that led MAS S.A. to become internationalized, are thoroughly described, as well as the reasons why in this effort chose Woodward as an ally. Furthermore, it analyzes the criteria on the basis of which the right partner should be selected, as well as the mechanisms for the proper governance of an alliance. By delving into individual elements of the alliance, such as culture, communication and complementary skills, we conclude to the characteristics that a successful strategic alliance should have. Reviewing not only the internationalization strategy followed by MAS S.A. but also the skills gained through its strategic partnership with Woodward, we can establish how successful strategic alliances change and strengthen businesses. In this context, interviews were conducted with people holding "key positions" in the creation and operation of the strategic alliance and open-ended questionnaires were completed not only for the heads of departments but for the employees of the company as well.
