Training is the set of activities and procedures related to the conception, design and
implementation of special programs with the primary purpose of enriching, upgrading and
further developing the academic, theoretical, and practical professional and personal interests,
skills , knowledge and skills of teachers during their term.
Although teachers during their undergraduate studies have acquired the basic
knowledge with the help of which they will face the challenges in the classroom, it is useful if
not necessary, to attend training programs in order to make the teaching work more effective
and to be able to develop professionally.
The educational challenges faced by teachers can be described by the socio-cultural
conditions prevailing in Greece. More specifically:
1. in recent years the number of students diagnosed with some form of learning disability or
emotional disorder has greatly increased
2. Greece in recent years has received a large number of immigrants and refugees with the result
that the classes have become multicultural
3. financial conditions, family crises and many other factors have increased the number of
children with delinquent behaviors
So many times the basic training that teachers have received from the university is not
enough in order to deal with the situations mentioned above. Thus, the need for further training
is imperative.
Self-assessment is a process in which the employee judges his own work. Regarding the
educational system, the areas of self-evaluation are the self-evaluation of the school unit, the
self-evaluation of the student, the self-evaluation of the teacher and the self-evaluation of the
team of the teaching staff.
During the process of self-evaluation, the teacher explores his feelings, himself,
observes and evaluates his actions, his performance, his educational competence and redefines
his goals.
Teachers' self-evaluation is a process that aims to improve them, focuses on teachers, is
carried out by teachers, is continuous and does not stop improving, has no specific way of being
carried out, is a stage of decision-making by teachers for their work and behavior, gives them
the opportunity to see their achievements and finally it is a method of self-knowledge and that
of acceptance.
