Abstract

Today, the situation we are experiencing was something unpredicted, unexpected and is extremely difficult for all of the humanity. The pandemic of coronavirus, without warning and without making any distinction in race, gender, age and wealth, has led to the death of millions, has dramatically changed the daily routine for all of us and for over a year, simultaneously has caused enormous economic and health disasters even on the greatest economies. As a result, we are all called upon to contribute however we can to combat this rare and challenging phenomenon. Therefore, the aim of this thesis revolves around the axis of smartphone applications that track COVID-19 case contacts. Firstly, we will review the current situation and cover the main points regarding the virus and its ways of transmission. Next, we will identify the areas in which digital technology can be useful in the current situation, while giving our attention to the user contact tracking mobile applications. Specifically, we will inform you about the difficulties that occur from this type of applications, their different tactics and structures, as well as the risks involved both in terms of privacy and in terms of attacks.
