Nowadays, the Procurement Department is a key pillar in modern business as it manages the most basic priority of a business, that of expenses. Any delay, even a small one, can hurt the company's profitability, as well as its reliability. Therefore, there is an urgent need to create procedures that will help the smooth and proper operation of the Procurement Department.
The object of this postgraduate thesis is the study of the procedures followed in a procurement department. The purpose of this study is to highlight the importance of procurement throughout the supply chain and to describe the procurement and negotiation procedures.
Specifically, the steps for the search, evaluation, and integration of suppliers of raw materials and packaging materials are presented. The following is the importance of signing contracts between a purchasing company and suppliers as well as the negotiation and ongoing reassessment of existing approved suppliers.
At the end, a case study of a pharmaceutical company is presented, analyzing the scope of work of the procurement department, its obligations as well as the peculiarities of the pharmaceutical industry compared to the rest market.
