It is generally accepted that the protection of personal data and, furthermore, of private life are fundamental human rights. In today's age of great technology development and easy information transfer, however, the protection of personal data is not being done properly. For this reason, 26 May 2018 was a milestone date for the protection of personal data of individuals from processing as the new European Regulation 2016/679 came into force, which obliged all Member States to implement a new much more strict regulation.
This paper presents the implementation of the new Regulation for the protection of personal data in Banking sector, as it is a fact that they are greatly affected by its implementation and must in a short time to comply with new rules.
In the first chapter of the paper there is a reference to general information for the processing of personal data and in the second chapter there is a historical review in order to understand how we were led to the creation of the new regulation. In the third chapter the analysis of the new regulation is carried out and in the fourth chapter the new regulation in the Banking sector is analyzed and the compliance of the Banks in it is presented. Finally, the fifth chapter presents the case study of Piraeus Bank.
