This Dissertation investigates the financial status of the companies ALTEC, BYTE
COMPUTERS, PROFILE SOFTWARE, QUEST, and SINGULAR LOGIC, which operate in
the IT sector of the Athens Stock Exchange. Ratio analysis is performed to examine the
liquidity, profitability, effectiveness and sustainability of the companies as well as sectoral
benchmarking, and benchmarking analysis through the collection of secondary data from the
published financial statements of the companies under review for the period 2012-2016.
The results of the analysis show that Greek IT companies have responded to the crisis by
maintaining an average liquidity higher than 1, collecting their receivables faster than paying
their liabilities, and reducing their inventories. In terms of raising capital, the companies under
review prefer short-term lending, as shown by the capital structure and sustainability indicators.
On the negative side is the fact that IT companies suffered primarily losses during the period
under review, with the exception of PROFILE, which affected their profitability indicators.
The results are fully justified by the situation of the Greek economy, which has not allowed for
reforms that could upgrade the public as well as the private sector.
In conclusion, for IT companies to remain viable, a strategic approach is needed with sufficient
consideration of the external and internal business environment, especially in an economic
environment that has not yet stabilized on an upward path. In this way, Greek businesses in the
sector will continue to create innovative products of international appeal mainly in the areas of
business software and IT services.
