The scope of this thesis is the development of a web based word processor, with an integrated adaptive teaching system, to teach the functionalities of a word processor to the user based on his needs, in order to make learning faster and more effective. It works for every type of user for each level of knowledge.
Specifically, there is an option called application training in the word processor’s menu that enables the user to test his knowledge in 10 random exercises based on the word processor’s functionality. If the user makes two mistakes in a row, he is given the opportunity to try an easier exercise to get a boost and then be able to solve the initial exercise. Also, in every mistake, the program informs the user about the category of the mistake he did, to get an idea of what he needs to pass the exercise successfully. Finally, it is possible for the user to view the overall results of his effort and detailed information about his actions, so that the user can further improve his knowledge in order to use a word processor fluently in the shortest period of time possible.
This thesis constitutes a first complete attempt to create a system that will provide all of the services mentioned above. The subtractive method used to achieve that, which has resulted on a great parameterization of the system, makes it as an excellent basis for creating other such systems, but also as a guide for further development.
