Wine production is a strong industry worldwide. The global and domestic market for standardized wine is considered highly competitive and complex. The history of Greek wine covers an extremely long period, maybe the largest in the world, in terms of continuous growing of the vine and the timeless production of wine. The wine industry is one of the most important sectors of the Greek economy, not only for the domestic beverage market, but also for the general development and promotion of Greek traditional products in foreign markets. In the wine sector, structural changes have been made in recent years to increase the competitiveness of Greek wines in order to gain a prominent position on the international market.
A tendency for international extroversion from the Greek winemaking enterprises has been observed over the last five years. The economic conditions in which Greek winery enterprises operate and the examination of the characteristics of the winery industry, leads to concrete conclusions and practices for the course of the industry. The main conclusions of the study are given on the basis of the five Porter model and the SWOT analysis. Finally, the key points that emerged from the above analysis are summarized.
