In the current post graduate thesis some specific learning theories are being examined and their application in learning software. The theories that are analyzed are a) behaviorism, b) constructivism, c) sociocultural learning theory, d) cognitive learning theory and e) transformative learning theory. The basic principles of each theory are mentioned along with the most important representatives and the advantages and disadvantages that occurred during the learning process. Finally, a brief comparison of the key characteristics of the above learning theories was made. Subsequently, a research was made through the bibliographic database www.scopus.com. Articles, conference papers and publications related to the application of the above learning theories to educational software were recorded. Finally, the results and the key features of each publication were summed up in a table.
