In Greece, medicines are a social good and thus it is directly affected by population data. In order to safely produce and distribute medicines to the general public, pharmaceutical companies have to comply with domestic and international regulations and are affected by different legal frameworks (Greece’s, the EU’s, national). In recent years, several productive and commercial sectors have been shrinking due to crisis, reducing their profits, while the unstable environment does not favor growth investment.
The current paper presents a theoretical background to the basic principles of Strategic Management. Then, a review of the principles, features and tools of Total Quality Management, as well as the different approaches or methods of Total Quality Management, is made.
Given that the pharmaceutical industry has always followed very strict legislation and responded accordingly to in-depth controls and inspections, the Guidelines on Quality of Medicines and the Quality Management Practices commonly followed in the pharmaceutical industry worldwide were later on recorded.
Chapter 4 comprises the recording of the current state of the industry, according to IOBE data for the period 2015-2016, with reference to demand and supply factors, demographic trends and developments as well as economic developments.
Finally, the prospects of the industry, in relation to the global developments and the positive and negative data concerning development that emerged after processing the data recorded in the previous chapter, are presented.
