In recent years, there has been a great tendency to change the absolute profitable way of operating businesses, following the assumption made by many business-studying scientists that profit should be an indicator of how well a business goes, and not a purpose. The aim should be to improve the quality of life by promoting innovative solutions that challenge the general thinking on economic, environmental and social issues. We should work in a partnership where we first set people and the planet.
Thus, the concept of social enterprise and entrepreneurship and the challenge for countries to undertake actions to improve the quality of services overall, using new methods of administration and innovative technologies that inspire and demonstrate real social well-being. In this context, a holistic presentation of social enterprise and entrepreneurship is presented in this paper.
In Chapter 1 there is an initial introduction to the concepts and definitions of social enterprise-entrepreneurship and then a historical retrospection that includes the development of this idea in today's social enterprises.
In Chapter 2 there is a thorough mapping of social enterprise and entrepreneurship. Starting from the definitions and concepts as perceived by the Committee of the European Union and ending with the ways in which these concepts and definitions are implemented in the EU Member States
In Chapter 3, at national level, the is a presentation of the Greek ecosystem of social enterprise and entrepreneurship with the legal and institutional frameworks as well as the actions taken.
Chapter 4 examines the case of a model social enterprise using SROI forcasting methodology as a tool to measure the impact it will have on society as well as the amount of profit it will derive from social investment.
