Abstract
Information technology is changing the way companies operate and compete each other. At the same time, the business environment is becoming more and more complicated and it consists of operational units that require a broader spectrum of functionality and an increased level of integration to achieve faster decision-making and better management of business resources, customers and supply chains. Managing a business today primarily means making the right decisions at the right time. In a highly competitive environment, it survives that company that makes better decisions and works more efficiently, and not necessarily that who makes better products or services. The aim of this master thesis is to sketch a clear picture of the current state of Accounting Information Systems (AIS) and the way they operate and to examine their contribution to decision making, business process improving and value adding for companies and organizations.
