Τhis study first examines the theoretical approach to the development of an educational software platform, mainly for teaching academic subjects, such as language and grammar, with special emphasis on primary school pupils. The main Educational Theories used underlying the software are being analyzed, to be given a complete view of the reasons why they were chosen. Educational Theories help to set educational goals in the progress of students learning, solidify the reasons behind the functionality of the platform and its behavior depending on the student's performance.
To further support the theory behind the development approach, a practical research was done in three levels. First, a variety of implementations was researched with similar teaching purposes in the way in which they operate. Then, surveyed professionals in the fields of education and software development about their experiences on the use and development of the corresponding software. Finally, previous research on the subject was examined about the interaction of young children and their teachers with technology in the classroom. The second part of the thesis thoroughly analyzes the way in which the teaching platform was implemented, what technologies were used and why, connecting the theoretical approach with the final program.
