In a continuous and dynamic environment such as the hospital, there is an incessant attempt to manage staff in the best possible way in order to reach the maximum level of their employment satisfaction. The job satisfaction describes how people feel in relation to their job (Spector, 1997), that is, whether someone is satisfied or dissatisfied with his/her working conditions. The job satisfaction or dissatisfaction is the result of the relationship among the expectations that people have for their work and what they can really get from this (Abu-Bader, 2000). There are many factors that affect the individual level of work satisfaction, such as the level of wages, the justice in the promotion system, the quality of working conditions, leadership and relations among workers and the characteristics of the work itself (variety of tasks, interests and opportunities). The job satisfaction is not identical to the stimulation but those two terms are closely linked. The term «incitement» refers to the process of activating the skills of workers in order to achieve the organization's goals. Therefore, in order to encourage employees of a company, the management should know what their needs are to be met. Scientists such as Maslow, Herzberg and others developed theories of human motivation that give satisfactory information and answers to managers who seek ways to make their business more efficient. This paper refers to the theories of motivation and the factors of job satisfaction with particular reference to health professionals. There is also indication for the current conditions in Greek public hospitals and the administrative problems they face. A conducted research is presented based on the job satisfaction of the medical staff of the institution «Evangelismos». The conclusions of the research are presented along with some suggestions for improving the employee’s efficiency.
