Economic and environmental impacts of the use of new forms of marine fuel
The present chapter aims at expanding methods of dealing with environmental pollution in shipping. In more detail, the first chapter is a review of the course and diversification of shipping from the 16th century to the 20th century. In addition, the concept of a shipping company, as well as all the categories of ships, are being analyzed. In the second chapter there is a thorough analysis of the shipping – economy relationship, starting from the course followed by shipping during the economic crisis, from 2010. It also analyzes the way in which shipping affects the economic flow but also the opposite. The third chapter is a chapter presenting the role of shipping in environmental pollution. All fuels used for the supply of ships and, of course, petroleum are reported and analyzed. Also, all agreements and amendments made to protect the environment from ship pollutants are mentioned. The fourth chapter is the last part of the theoretical framework of this paper and essentially explores the developments in the field of pollutants, highlighting some possible means of mitigating the phenomena and their effects. The fifth chapter is the practical part of the work. This is a survey conducted in twenty shipping companies and has produced conclusions through the use of a questionnaire. Finally, the sixth and the final chapter is the epitome of all the work. In conclusion, protecting the environment from the pollutants released by shipping activity is another key objective of the shipping company. So, by the law, to reduce these pollutants, desulphurizaton devices should be used in old technology grapes ships with the majority of them using scrubbers.
