Computers and Internet are unquestionably one of the greatest achievements of modern technology. More specifically applying modern technology in the field of Health Care greatly contributes to the improvement of health services provided to the patients as well as to the improvement of working conditions for the medical and administrative personnel. Although the Electronic File is not so widespread in our Country, both public and private hospitals have positively responded to the prospect of creating and keeping Electronic Files. This Master’s Degree Thesis aims to focus on the Electronic File System and study the organization and benefits that it offers, as well as the difficulties and problems it is faced with and the development of standard reference models. It will also present the adoption of the Electronic File System by one of the major private Gynaecological and Obstetric Clinics, ‘REA’. The thesis will also refer to the difficulties faced by the Health Care units in adopting and unifying the Electronic File System over the Handwritten File System as well as to the attitude of the medical and administrative personnel towards learning and adopting the new system and finally to the effectiveness of the programs. Furthermore the thesis will look into the cost of a medical event in the two main wards, Surgical and Obstetric, concerning consumption of medicines, services and materials and more specifically it will focus on how much each medical event has cost to the clinic. The research behind the thesis has been based both on International and Greek Bibliography in electronic and printed form and on actual facts provided by the Gynaecological and Obstretic Clinic ‘REA’. Finally the thesis will propose some solutions based on International Bibliography in order to support the smooth function on of health units and the adoption of the new system.
