In order to complete this Master thesis it was necessary to divide it into two parts. Initially in the first part, consisting of two chapters, the concept of strategic management and the importance of the strategy in a business unit were fully analyzed. Then in the second chapter, the concept of tourism, the accusations, the contribution of strategic management in tourism, developed with complete analysis. Analysis was performed for both the internal and external environment. An extensive presentation of the company's SWOT analysis and features is provided to make a strategic decision like the five Porter forces. The second part of the work, which consists of a chapter, was presented in the case study of the hotel business MAY where a general presentation of the island of Crete and the history of the site of the Municipality of Rethymno is being carried out and the hotel unit studied . The internal environment of the hotel unit as well as its external environment was analyzed. An extensive analysis of the financial situation was made. The competition in the tourism industry has been analyzed in recent years and the work has been completed with the SWOT analysis to find the opportunities and strengths and to prevent the weaknesses and threats that may arise in the hotel unit. The work ends by presenting some suggestions so that it can improve the business in the future.
