Technology has radically changed every aspect of our lives. Even the way of learning has changed, since technology has been furnishing us with new and more pleasant ways of learning. The use of ICTs in education aims to maximize the efficiency of learning and this is why more and more educational institutions and enterprises adopt it. Through the use of ICTs, schools offer their students the possibility of distant learning. Through the theoretical part, this dissertation presents the way that schools use e-learning systems and through the practical part it examines if private schools of secondary education and to what extent : -Exploit e-learning -Embody e-learning in their marketing strategies. While there is data about the use of e-learning in universities and enterprises, there is not a research about the use of e-learning in schools. It is well known ,from their websites, that many private schools use e-learning systems so the collection of data from them and how they use it is necessary. For the purposes of this research ,the heads of private schools of secondary education in Greece received a questionnaire that had to be filled in anonymously. The research concluded that only a small number of private schools has adopted some system of e-learning and that these platforms of e-learning are mainly used conventionally without interaction. This paper consists of two parts. Theoretical part A: Chapter One Definitions of e-learning and its history. An analysis of learning management systems and their pros and cons. Chapter Two An analysis of the use of e-learning in universities, schools and enterprises and data about the international market of e-learning. Chapter Three This chapter refers to the operation of the private educational sector and gives numbers about them. Further, a marketing plan is presented through which a school adopting an e-learning system could attract more students. Chapter Four This chapter mentions three private schools(one school in Greece and two schools abroad) which have adopted e-learning in the best possible way and who have integrated it in their marketing strategies.
Practical part B: Chapter Five This chapter underscores the purpose of this dissertation and gives details about its exploratory process along with the mode of data collection. In addition, it presents and analyzes the answers of the respondents. Chapter Six The conclusions of this paper are presented in this chapter and proposals for further research are given.
