This thesis aims to describe pharmaceutical sector in Greece and to provide financial
data on this sector. In addition, this thesis would try to find potential possibilities of
growth on pharmaceutical industry by making financial statement analysis with ratios.
Moreover, this thesis provides data on building of a quality system into a
pharmaceutical industry.
In the 1st chapter (Pharmaceutical sector), there are references about the evolution of
pharmaceutical sector both in Greece and globally. Moreover, there are references
about the framework of pharmaceutical policy in Greece, the different categories of
pharmaceutical products and demographic trends both in Greece and other European
countries.
In the 2nd chapter (Financial data of pharmaceutical sector), there are references about
the contribution of pharmaceutical industry in Greek economy. In addition, there are
references about total sales of pharmaceutical companies in Greece, the public
expense on health and especially on drugs and also the effectiveness of R&D
departments in order to create sales.
In the 3nd chapter (Strategic analysis of pharmaceutical sector), are analyzed the
macro and micro environment of pharmaceutical companies. Macro-environment is
analyzed by using PEST analysis and micro- environment is analyzed by using
Porter’s model. Furthermore, there are references on the degree of concentration of
Greek pharmaceutical market. Finally, in this chapter, are described the directions that
Greek pharmaceutical companies should follow in order to increase their competition.
In the 4nd chapter (Financial statement analysis of pharmaceutical sector), firstly, are
described the major methods of financial statement analysis. In this thesis, it is used
financial statement analysis with ratios in order to analyze the pharmaceutical sector.
In the 5nd chapter (Quality in pharmaceutical industry), are analyzed all principles and
all requirements in order to build a quality system into a pharmaceutical industry. In
this chapter also, are described all the benefits occurred from the implementation of a
quality system in a pharmaceutical company.
