Abstract
Ιn this assignment we have to negotiate and present a very important aspect of our current economic and investment activity of the country which is relevant for understanding΅the extension of the concession agreement on Athens International Airport (hereafter "AIA"), Eleftherios Venizelos. Before we proceed to a more detailed examination and analysis of the new contract’s features and financial data, it would be better to present briefly data for the airport along with the core principles for the concession agreements. This would help the readers grasp the main concept and identify aspects of the essay that will be demonstrated at the chapters.
This will allow us to understand the characteristics and the importance of the new contract of the Athens airportat length since it is associated with the current data at Eleftherios Venizelos. The analysis of the main concept will indicate the importance and the economic viability of the concession agreement with the latest updates regarding the progress of the case. However due to the current period of slow economic growth and financial crisis, delays on the project took place.
The financial aspect of the extension of the concession agreement is important as it affects the economic developments in Athens. This is the reason why a more in-depth research would be useful.
In the beginning of the thesis we will more closely the construction process of the airport El. Venizelos, the technology and the available innovative applications. We will, furthermore, examine the technical and functional data and statistics of the airport traffic both locally and globally. Also, we will present distinctions that have been awarded to Eleftherios Venizelos airport globally.
In the second part, we will define the concession agreement and its application on public works. In addition, we will study the characteristics of such application.
In the third and last part we will examine the terms of the third memorandum on the use of AIA, the duration and the role of HRADF. Moreover, we will investigate the possible extension scenario, studying the financial data,the capacity of the airport and the interaction with regional airports. In the end, we will examine the extension of the concession agreement and its financial and operational impact.
