n this thesis, the implementation of the European Monitoring, Reporting and Verifying (MRV) system of the CO2 marine emissions is examined. Initially, the existing regulatory frame is described in combination with the relevant best practices of the marine industry. Further on, we analyze the different sides of the proposed system, as well as the expressed opinions of the stakeholders of the marine industry. Additionally, we present the impacts of the proposed system on the economy, the companies and the environment. Finally, we investigate the possibility that the new system can be a tool against the fuel smuggling and that the targets of its inspiration can be achieved.
