In recent years, more and more companies emphasize on employee evaluation, as they believe that through this process, their employees’ development increases and thereby they contribute significantly to competitiveness and productivity boom. Nowadays, in our society of information, further improvement of education, capacities and creative thinking are necessary. Company targets through the processes of the administration of HR to increase the effectiveness and the efficiency of their employees. One of these processes is the employee evaluation.
The employee evaluation is essentially a process which assesses whether the appraised meet the needs of the job. The employee evaluation may constitute either an informal process that is created by the rough judgment of the evaluator or a formality which takes place at regular and specified intervals using specific assessment methods. The assessment helps the employees’ personal strengths and weak points be identified, with the aim to give the employees the opportunity to understand the level of their performance and motivate them to improve it.
The employee evaluation consists of specific stages. The first one is the establishing of the performance criteria, which the evaluation is based on. The monitoring and the assessment of the behaviour of the evaluated employee are coming next. Following this, is the recording of the evaluation conclusions and in the end the employee must be informed about his performance. This process is a difficult requirement for evaluators because their crisis must be based on objective criteria and also, they have to be very careful during the evaluation because their findings may determine and influence the future career of the employee. Still, these results should be made known to appraises, which in the case of a negative evaluation may result in tensions and conflicts between the managers and the employees.
Companies use the employee evaluation in order to enable them to make decisions regarding increasing employee performance with the help of incentives such as promotions, higher pay, a work piece change, education, etc. When employees feel that their needs are covered, then their performance is more satisfying.
