This paper deals with the generic medicines’ market in Greece. The first chapter presents the basic concepts which are governing the sector of medicines. Furthermore the procedures are been analyzed to be followed worldwide from the discovery of a new drug to obtain marketing authorization. The second chapter presents the medicine market both locally (Greece) and worldwide. The third chapter presents the strategies that the pharmaceutical companies of the original medicines by patents in order to protect their own interests. Moreover the essay analyzes that the generic drugs faces when entering the market. Furthermore the essay presents the pricing policies and the results that they bring to the overall level of medicines' prices. The fourth chapter of the essay deals with the presentation and the evaluation of the generic market in Greece in relation to other 3 European countries (UK, France, Germany). Subsequently, the sales of the 3 European countries are compared with the sales of Greece by the effect of time. The collection of data relates to the third quarter of 2001 to the third quarter of 2013 and used a total of 192 observations from the IMS Health Company. In order to be studied the influential relation of the past values in each drug category in the current sales in total, this relationship is been examined by testing the model of the regression with a layered study (panel). The survey's results confirmed the upward trend of penetration of the generics medicines in the coming years. As well as it reflected by the results of the potential Assessment Panel there is a persistence of sales which confirms the upward trend that it appeared in the diagrams of sales. In the sixth chapter presents the conclusions.
