In a world constantly being transformed, researchers and school teachers are looking for ways to improve the learning process and make it more flexible and adaptable to the abilities and needs of each teacher and learner. Students in modern school should be actively involved in the process, the role of the teacher is changing, and so is the content of teaching. In order for education to keep up with the constant changes occurring in society, it is necessary to find new, innovative approaches to diversify the traditional character of teaching.
This thesis has to develop a web portal that will promote a specific methodology for the use of digital comics in education. This methodology was developed within the project EduComics of the European Union which was held in five countries and suggests the involvement of students in an active process of creating their own digital comics stories using simple technology tools that do not require specialized knowledge or drawing abilities. The EduComics portal hopes to provide a simple presentation of the methodological steps that may be used by any teacher who wants to integrate digital comics in the classroom as an alternative yet effective teaching approach.
The portal will provide supporting material to teachers and offer them easy-to-use tools for the creation of multimedia digital comics. Moreover, it offers a variety of lesson plans categorized by subject, while it invites users to participate by sending their own lesson plans, digital comics created by their students or digital comics characters that can be reused, with the prospect of creating a community of practice. It will provide information about the project EduComics and the development of this particular methodology and useful links to interesting websites. The main objective of the portal is the dissemination of the methodology of using digital comics in education with the integration of web 2.0 technologies.
