Nowadays, each country's health system faces various challenges - difficulties, such as high costs (with continuously rising tendancy) and weakness in total control management in the offered services. These elements alone create fertile grounds for change. Modern technology is a solution to these problems. With the use of informational systems in health management, the achievement of efficient organization and exploitation of funds is possible. Simultaneously, with the use of informational systems, the formulation of procedures and the reduction of mistakes is succeded. A disadvantage, however, is the high cost of obtaining these informational systems. Open source softwares cover this gap, which is offered freely to the users, with the option of intervention and adjustment to their own preferences and needs. In the last chapter of the essay three real case scenarios are presented. The present essay attempts a practical approach to the open source softwares for hospitals. For that reason the program care2x is selected, which is an integrated hospital informational system and supports all the operations in a hospital.
