Abstract
The international legal regime that regulates global protection of the marine and coastal environment from operational or accidental discharge in any way, of any kind of sewage and waste arising mainly from the IMO, an organization operating under the EU. The European Union (EU) is an additional field of transnational debates and decisions regulating shipping. A common feature is that after a series of accidents involving large quantities of petroleum, the IMO and the European Union adopted legislation to prevent future oil spills. Since then both the IMO and the European Union took every measure possible to develop a system of withdrawal of single-hull. This thesis examines international conventions such as the OILPOL 1954 and Marpol 73/78 and legislative packages Erika, giving greater weight to the legislative package Erika III.
