The aim of this study is the analysis and evaluation of the proposed European Emissions Trading System (ETS) developed based on the mechanism that was decided to be implemented on Civil Aviation. We further analyze the different proposals made for further investigation regarding the effectiveness of the proposed system on an economic, environmental and social level. We will focus and examine the economic impact on the shipping sectors of three countries, Greece, Denmark and Cyprus. The study is divided into two main parts, the description and commentary of the proposed mechanism and the analysis of the costs and benefits, first separately and then in a combined cost-benefit analysis. The need for emissions mitigation which further exacerbates global warming is real and undeniable. For this purpose the integration of the Shipping industry in this venture is vital. To this end, it is also necessary to examine whether the proposed scheme will lead to the desired results, the environmental goals for which it has been designed, without disturbing the balance of the market to an uncontrollable extent, along with the relative repercussions on the world economy and international trade.
