The economic impact of medical tourism in Greece

Abstract
Tourism is a socioeconomic phenomenon with important effects on human psychology
and on national economies. The definition of tourism called as the movement of a
person from his permanent residence to another place. The reason for this travel and the
destination is determined by the needs and the reason of the tourist. As a result we may
have a leisure trip, a treatment trip, employment movement, agro tourism and a number
of others journeys. In this board context belongs and the medical tourism.
In the present work, has been made an attempt to refer the concepts of tourism, the
reason for medical tourism, the available infrastructures in Greece and the tourist
market. In addition is mentioned the level of health care which is available in Greece,
the terms for health services and the European Directive 24/2011. Finally it is referred
the economic benefit received from the other countries, as the economic impact of our
country and the certifications that health providers and hotels accommodation, should
have.
