Abstract

It is fact that the health and welfare sector in our country, private and public lags dramatically in the application of information technologies and communication. In practice, the use of IT in the Health provides a number of important benefits, relating both to better serve patients, and to facilitate the medical and nursing staff. Despite the fact that electronic medicine is not yet widespread in Greece, however recent years have seen a significant mobility in research and development of this industry. The main purpose of this paper is to examine the Health Information Systems. More specifically, the purpose of this paper is the introduction into the environment of information systems, the reference to the important concepts that related to the Information systems, and study about their implementation in Greece. The main conclusion from this work is that computers and information systems help and offer solutions in the sector of healthcare, which have as a result the procedures, are applied today, through computers. This element reduces both the time and cost and also decreases the phenomena of delays in the diagnosis of the patient, (through - medical record), as well it reduces the likelihood of meaningless visits to hospitals (which is achieved through telemedicine), notably for patients in remote locations.
