Abstract

This postgraduate thesis examines and identifies the deficiencies and limitations of information systems supporting the remote management of catering outlets by their owners. The research conducted led to the development of an information system, which supports the increased needs of catering outlets owners. Through this system, owners will be able to monitor and manage one or more stores, without the requirement of physical presence. They will also be able to directly change their stores’ pricing policy, in order to accommodate sudden market changes. Furthermore, they will be able to remotely manage staff scheduling and monitor their employees’ efficiency. Finally, they will be able to get real-time data regarding the number of customers in stores, their orders and their service level. They can also get additional information on an aggregated level about daily, weekly or monthly sales. The aforementioned needs were addressed by myview24 system that was developed in this postgraduate thesis. Myview24 is a web based system that interoperates with the POS systems at the catering outlets. Through myview24, the catering outlet owners can be aware of any update that takes place in their POS. Similarly, any change in myview24 is updating the outlet’s local information system, supporting in this way the real-time, bidirectional communication between the owner and the store. We believe that myview24 fully addresses the needs of catering store owners, by offering many innovative features in a functional, real-time, web-based, interoperable environment that further facilitates and optimizes the overall catering store management.
