Abstract

The development and exploitation of new technologies from the defence industries resulted in early integration of computer science in the Armed Forces. A basic need was vast data storage into manageable and easily accessible databases. In time the need to create distributed database systems, organized in wide networks, with automatic update capabilities, became obvious. These systems had to be totally autonomous, especially during operations, due to the need to be deployed in an operational theatre and to be on constant move. As a resulted of that communication interruption between the distributed databases was inevitable so a new need became apparent which was to create a new application in order to monitor and record the quality of communication between the network nodes as well as interruptions, total failure time, and general database status. The statistical data of the above mentioned application will permit to improve network quality and the network architecture. Moreover the analysis and the implementation of this application was made in a generic and abstract fashion. This had as a result the additional capability to be used from other systems or agencies apart from the military.
