Museums are places where culture and knowledge are hosted. The cultural heritage and identity of each nation is mainly preserved and depicted by the artifacts and collections of its museums. A major direction of a museum’s development is the preservation of those values, promoting and making them accessible by society the best way. This diploma thesis is a record and analysis of the tendencies around a museum; its main objective is to raise a concern regarding the perspectives and restrictions, as well as the role of visitors and visitors’ traffic patterns, nowadays and in the future. Museums are required to meet today’s potential created around visitors. The goal set is the growing visitors’ attraction along with supplying multidimensional educational experience. Joining education with recreation, using interactivity, shaping experiences within the museum, are all done in order to achieve greater and more active visitor’s involvement. At the global tendency towards digitalization of cultural heritage, Greece is actively present. As technology and communications are shaping a new museum environment, the value of internet visitor emerges, further flourishing the cultural heritage. Technology supports museum’s goals, as long as it is used in a wise and rational way. Managing cultural institutions and museums in particular is rather special, compared to the models used in business in general. Being a non-profit organization, the main reason of existence is serving society in the best way, in terms of offering substantial and qualitative educational resources.
