The scope of this work is to research whether blended learning, within a collaborated educational framework, can really help the im¬provement of the educational process, especially in the first classes of sec¬ondary education, when students' level differences are already visible and obvious. We investigate the reasons that these differences are created as well as the pedagogical background which suggests blended learning as a possible method with which the solution of the problem can be reached. A mixed platform, based on open source software is created and used, and even more, there is an effort to give special importance to software of asynchronous discussions (forum) instead of classical estab¬lished LMS approaches. Special interest is also given to the "jigsaw" educational collabora¬tion methodology. The effectiveness of these applications is measured in both a qualita¬tive and quantitative ways, to produce useful conclusions.
