The purpose of this study is to examine the content of CSR and how it can be applied to shipping. As one of the latest proposals in the area of corporate governance, CSR offers an alternative mode of operation of various agencies. CSR having incorporated ethical and social objectives help to achieve the economic goals of an organization. Within the study there is the history of CSR and on what principles it is based. It is also attempted to highlight the positive aspects of its implementation, as well as opposing views on the integration of CSR within the context of operating companies. It also analyzes various cases of companies applying CSR in the context of their strategy. The central theme of the analysis is the case with the implementation of social action in the field of shipping, taking into account two sub-sectors of shipping, the passenger and the sea going. In each case there is an analysis of specific companies and what CSR means to them. The question is how dominant is CSR in this area with particular characteristics and whether the inclusion in the strategy of companies ultimately pay. The work ends with the conclusions of how practical and effective implementation of CSR in shipping is.
