The subject of this dissertation is the development and construction of an intelligent and adaptive web- based tutoring system for the tutoring of English tenses to students of all ages, who have a basic knowledge of the English language. The system uses a combination of deduction methods and follows modeling techniques to construct and update the model of each individual student. It also uses adaptation technologies, from the field of Intelligent Tutoring Systems and the field of Adaptive Hypermedia Systems, in order to adapt instruction and presentation to the knowledge level of each student and his progress, according to his model. Finally, the tutoring system of English tenses supports the learner during his interaction with the system, adapts instruction to the student model, helps the student throughout the interaction with suitable messages and hyperlinks, corrects the student’s mistakes so that he learns from them and gives him advice on the sections of the educational material that he needs to repeat.
