Abstract
One of the key issues in design generally and in designing sites in particular, is the reuse of existing designing experience, so that we do not have to reinvent the wheel with every design effort. In this context, this paper began by studying the existing situation in e-travel sites on the Internet and then focused on the creation of a pattern language that would help designing the homepages of hotel chains’ sites. First, we studied the development of use of design patterns and their language, mainly in the area of human-computer interaction. We then proceeded to a broad review of the Internet and the current literature. We processed the results and the data we came up with led us to select the functions we introduced in the proposed solution and to formulate a set of related patterns for the design of the homepage. Some of the proposed patterns are variations of patterns already proposed by other researchers, such as Welie, available on the Internet or in the literature, while the other patterns were proposed by us. All proposed design patterns are presented as thumbnails. Finally, a serious effort was made to evaluate the pattern language that was the outcome of our efforts and proposals are given for future expansion of the research that began with this paper.
